JANUARY 2012
January 28 Portland Skate the Lake. The eighth annual International Speed Skating event will take place in Portland on the Big Rideau Lake and race on a natural 1k oval. Enjoy traditional canteen fare of chilli and more. Try your luck on natural ice with homemade curling stones. Races are open to all skaters of all skill levels using all kinds of skates. FEBRUARY 2012
February 3-20 Ottawa Winterlude. Celebrate the joys of winter at Winterlude, with three fun-filled weekends in February. Canada’s favourite winter activities are featured across Ottawa and Gatineau at this annual event. Skate on the world’s largest skating rink, check out the ice sculpture competitions or play at North America’s largest snow playground. For more information see the Winterlude website.  
February 3-5 Seeleys Bay Frost Fest. Winter celebrations for the entire family. Skating, scavenger hunt, silent auction, ATV Poker Run, Quilt Show and much more. For more information see the Frost Fest 2012 website.  
February 19 Seeleys Bay Seeley's Bay Storyfest: James Raffan. James will have tales from his latest project: Circling the Midnight Sun. 2:00 pm at the Seeleys Bay Community Hall. $10 per person. For more info: sbara@seeleysbay.com  
February 25     Newboro Rideau Cup Dog Sled Race held in Newboro WEATHER PERMITTING. Saturday, February 25, 2012 starting at 9:30am, 6 team Dog Sled Races, and Novice and Experienced 1 or 2 dog team Skijoring Races. The new starting point this year will on Bay Street at Swallows Lane. Parking is encouraged at the ball diamond or on one side of near-by streets. Watch for signs. Breakfast is served for racers, participants, volunteers and the general public in the Community Hall beginning at 8:00am and Saturday evening join us for a fantastic supper, again open to everyone. Awards are presented in the Community Hall on Saturday at approximately 3:00pm. For more information see the Rideau Cup Dog Sled Races website.

APRIL 2012
April 20-21 Delta Delta Maple Syrup Festival - as soon as the sap starts to run the folks in Delta prepare for their annual Delta Maple Syrup Festival. Join us on April 20 & 21 for entertainment, refreshments, activities, craft show and of course, pancakes and maple syrup. The Old Stone Mill will be open for tours. This event draws people from all around. For more information see: www.deltafair.com.  
AUGUST 2012
August 11 Long Island Lockstation 37th Annual Antique & Classic Boat Show - The Manotick Classic Boat Club will showcase wood and early fiberglass boats from the early 1900s to the 1970s, including cabin cruisers, launches, runabouts, speed-boats, canoes and skiffs; this is a judged show. The locks will be in operation; non-profit groups and vendors will support the past and present usage of the canal. The event runs from 9 am to 4 pm. Admission is free.
