Rideau Heritage Voyageur Tours

The Rideau Roundtable, the Heritage House Museum, and the Rideau Canal Museum would like to invite you to a memorable interpretive heritage canoe tour along the Rideau.

With the 175th anniversary of the Rideau Canal this year and its designation as a World Heritage Site, this is a great time to learn more about the natural and cultural heritage of this amazing waterway at the Heart of the Rideau.

In the Heritage Voyageur Canoe Tour, you will have the fun of paddling in a 34-ft replica voyageur canoe with a costumed entertaining instructor and experience the passage through a canal lock. These, together with superb interpretation on your encounter with nature and your experience of the canal, will ensure your visit is a memorable one.

Package “A” offers an interpretative canoe tour of a provincial significant wetland: the Swale, the experience of going through a lock in the canal, the enjoyment of a catered lunch at the Rideau Canal Museum followed by a guided tour of this centre for the interpretation of Canada’s newest World Heritage Site.

Package “B” offers the experience of paddling through the tallest lock of the canal to the placid Lower Reach Basin. After disembarkment, you will be greeted by a costumed interpreter of the Heritage House Museum for a short walk to this architecturally significant upper middle class Victorian home. Enjoy a guided tour and relax with a Victorian tea before you are shuttled back to your car.

The Rideau Roundtable, the Heritage House Museum, and the Rideau Canal Museum are offering this incredible package deal to experience the wonders and heritage of the Heart of the Rideau.

The Rideau Heritage Voyageur Tours will take place every Thursday throughout August and will proceed rain or shine. The only situation where trips would be cancelled is there are substantially strong winds and if there is a thunderstorm.
