- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Gatineau Group of Artists

SMITHS FALLS, ON. – For the month of August, the Rideau Canal Museum will be featuring a new art exhibit by the Gatineau Group of Artists, a group of fifteen landscape artists who work together to create impressionistic pieces on canvas.

Inspired by the topography of the Laurentian Shield’s edge, a plateau region of eastern Canada extending north of Ottawa, the group channel the well-known Group of Seven by similarly painting as a group on location to capture the detail and colour of the changing seasons. The paintings, most of which focus on the Gatineau Hills, will be exhibited on the Museum’s third floor 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily for the entire month of August.

The formation of this group was the idea of Bruce Heggtveit who visualized a group of artists who would paint and work together in order to develop an understanding group of painters. Some members of the group have been together for over twenty years and the works of many of the individual members have been accepted into private collections and galleries over the years.
