- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Colonel By Day

SMITHS FALLS, ON. – The Rideau Canal Museum invites you to come celebrate Colonel By Day on Monday, August 4 at the heart of the Rideau Canal, Sensational Smiths Falls!

From 1826 to 1832, Colonel By led the construction of the Rideau Canal, 202 kilometres of waterway running from Ottawa to Kingston. One hundred and seventy six years later, we commemorate Colonel By’s huge engineering accomplishment - now a UNESCO World Heritage site – and thank him for giving Canadians a huge sense of pride for their country.

For this special day only, the Museum will be featuring the DVD “John By: Hero Without Honour” in our 80-seat auditorium. The film, which tells the story of the master builder of the Canal and founder of Ottawa, will also be on sale at a discounted price in our Gift Shop.

In fact, all of the Gift Shop’s Colonel By merchandise will be on special display with a 10% discount! A variety of books on the Canal’s history, a huge selection of home décor items, Rideau Canal apparel, and much more will also be available for purchase to support your local museum and a Canadian hero.

To find out more about Colonel By Day, please call the museum at 613-284-0505 or e-mail us at rcmchin@superaje.com. For a full listing of the museum’s events, please visit our website at www.rideau-info.com/museum.

The Rideau Canal Museum is the flagship interpretation & orientation centre for the entire historic Rideau Canal, and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June of 2007. The Museum is located at 34 Beckwith Street South, in Smiths Falls.
