Long Island Locks (N 65)
Before Canal construction the Rideau was not navigable at this end of Long Island, because of the shallow rapids on either side of the island. Colonel By built three locks into the canal cut on the east side of the river 1 mile north of Manotick. Besides the 100 feet of floating wharf upstream and 140 feet downstream, there is also a large bay (noted above) upstream which is suitable for anchoring. A large camping area is provided for boaters with extensive picnic locations.
