89. Jean* Francois (John) Wickenden

He received a degree in Civil Engineergin from McGill University.While attending McGill, John lived with his two brothers, Alfred andHenri who were residing in Montreal.

John graduated in about 1923. He married Annie later that year. Hegot a job in Montreal with Barrett Roofing. In late 1927 or early1928 he decided to strike out on his own, moving to Trois Rivieres.John, Annie and their young daughter Jean, moved into one of theapartments on Haut-Boc Street that his brother Henri had built. Heformed his own company, John F. Wickenden Company Limited, building asmall office in the back of the apartments on Haut-Boc Street.

In about 1931, the family moved into a new house, built by John, at363 St. Francois Xavier Street. An office was set up in the basementfrom which to run the John F. Wickenden Co. Ltd. Sometime later theoffice was moved downtown.

In 1937, John built "the Camp" on a lake near St. Mathieu, Quebec(near Shawinigan). This became a central gathering point for thefamily for many years to come.

In the early 1960s, John built a new house at 300 Terrace Berlinguet.In the (1980s?) the house at 363 St. Francois Xavier Street was torndown to make space for a parking lot.

One of John's career highlights was his success as President of theBridge Committee in initiating the construction of a bridge across theSt. Lawrence River, linking Trois Riveres with the south shore.


Annie* Catherine Eliza French

The family returned to Cookshire (close to Scotstown in the EasternTownships) when Annie was about 14. Annie went to school at theCookshire Academy. - Jocelyn Anne Wickenden

After her father died in 1905, Annie and her mother moved to Humboldt,Minnesota, near to where where her grandmother, Isabella MacIver(b.1834 - d.1903) and her step-grandfather, Donald Norman Murray (b.1827 - d.1907) had a home (Halling, Minnesota). In about 1912 theyreturned to Canada, settling in Cookshire, Quebec. In 1915/16 sheattended teacher's college at Macdonald College in St. Anne deBellevue, Quebec. After graduating from teacher's college, Annietaught school in Montreal.


129. Catherine Jean (Jean) Wickenden

MOONEY, Catherine Jean (nee Wickenden). Peacefully at the OttawaGeneral Hospital on March 3, 2008 in her eighty-third year. Belovedwife of the late J.G.M. (Kip) Mooney. Dear sister of Jocelyn Watson(Jim) of Pointe Claire, QC, Martha MacKellar (Jim) of Don Mills, ON,Harriet Taylor (Roy) of Oakville, ON, Alice MacEwen (the late Peter)of Qualicum Beach, BC and John Wickenden (Bonnie) of Baie D'Urfe, QC.Step-mother of the late Lorne (Margaret) of Toronto, ON and Eric(Sharon) of Vancouver, BC. Donations to the Leukemia and LymphomaSociety of Canada or to a charity of your choice would be gratefullyacknowledged. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date to beannounced.
