17. George* Clarkson Stanfield

George was an artist, following in his father's footsteps. After hisolder brother Henry died in 1838, his father, Clarkson, turned hisattention to George who became his artistic pupil and later hisassistant. He never achieved the same ability or fame as his father.He painted in a similar style, although he mostly did Europeanlandscapes with a few coastal scenes. After his father's death in1867, George's career and health deteriorated. He drank heavily anddied, of liver disease, in the care of his sister Harriet (Mrs.Bagshawe) [Spectacular Career of Clarkson Stanfield].

Baptismal record #449 of Westminister, Saint Martin in the Fields,London, 1828, does not show his birth date. It shows parents to beClarkson & Rebecca Stanfield living on Buckingham Street (14Buckingham Street - Pieter van der Merwe)

The 1871 British Census shows the family to be living at 6 PondStreet, registration district of Hampstead

The 1871 Census shows Henry Stanfield living with his family, age 12,born Hamstead, Middlesex.

Cause of death: Heart failure caused by running to catch a train.
Place of death: In train, Parramatta (NSW. Aust.)
The death certificate also notes that Emma Venters was his secondwife,
and they had no children. His first wife is given as "not known" and
there are no details except to say: "No issue" for this first marriage
