Is there more to life than maple syrup?
Sometimes I wonder, but here are some web sites that you might like. The Rideau canal is a fantastic waterway that runs from Kingston to Ottawa Ontario. If you are visiting this area you must see some of it. The locks at Jones Falls are one of our favourites. For all you need to know and more, www.rideau-info.com The Gibbons Family Farm is located 30 km north of Brockville. For info on Brockville including places to stay and attractions www.brockvilletourism.com, 1-888-251-7676. Places of interest to visit when in Brockville: Fulford Place Mansion, Brockville Museum, shopping mall with movie theatre, waterfront downtown with shops and restaurants, Brockville Arts Centre. Location of many scuba diving charters I recently bought a sea kayak. Made right here in downtown Frankville. I never liked the steering foot pedals on a kayak till I tried the new design on this one. Possibly the best sea kayak available www.eze-float.com Before or after visiting our Maple Sugar House and Museum, spend a day sampling sweet stuff by also visiting Hershey's chocolate factory in Smiths Falls. It's only a 20 minute drive from our place. www.hersheys.com/discover/smithsfalls.asp. When in Smiths Falls, also take the time to view the locks of the Rideau Canal and visit the Rideau Canal Museum. Two other main attractions: Heritage House Museum and Smiths Falls Railway Museum. For further information: www.town.smiths-falls.on.ca/tourism/index.html There are lots of opportunities to take a short cruise to see the Thousand Islands, one to three hour boat trips leave from Brockville, Rockport and Gananoque. Boarding a boat in Rockport begins your trip in the heart of the 1000 islands; so within minutes you will see the beauty of the 1000 Islands. Rockport Boat Lines (www.rockportcruises.com) offers sight-seeing cruises as well as lunch and dinner cruises. Heritage Boat Lines (www.boathouse-heritage.on.ca), also located in Rockport offers unique site-seeing cruising on small wooden boats which takes you into bays and behind islands the larger tour boats can not reach due to their size. However, if you really want to cruise the St. Lawrence River, the Canadian Empress, a replica steam-river boat, makes 5 and 6 day trips from Kingston to Quebec City and from Kingston to Ottawa or vice versa. For further information check out the web site www.stlawrencecruiselines.com A quaint, historical village located just 20 minutes from Gibbons Family Farm is Merrickville. A village to view the boats passing through the locks of the Rideau Canal. A place to browse or make purchases in the shops and boutiques of numerous, local artisans. Sit back and relax in a pub or restaurant to enjoy local flavours; www.realmerrickville.ca |
