| In this sequence of three photos, we can see the water draining out of the lock. In the top photo, the canal staff turn the rack and pinion gears that open up the valves in the base of the lower gates. This allows the water to flow out, and as can be seen from the lower two photos, it is a sedate vertical journey of 4 metres (13 feet). |
