Locking Through Edmunds
photo by: Ken W. Watson, 2006

A procession of cruisers sedately enters the lock at Edmunds. The vessel on the left is a rental cruiser from Aylings Boatyard in Merrickville. If you boat the Rideau, you may have noted that the lock staff almost always put rental boats into the lock first. The reason for this is that novice skippers sometimes have a bit of difficulty controlling their vessel. With the rental boat the only one in the lock, the possibility of a collision is minimized. The skipper of the rental boat only has to concentrate on getting the boat to the wall of the lock without the worry of hitting other boats. This keeps everyone happy.
