OBJECTIVES - Wolfe Lake is a large, clean lake of great natural beauty located a few kilometers west of Westport, Ontario. Its boundaries fall into the administration of the Townships of Rideau Lakes and South Frontenac. The Wolfe Lake (Westport) Association was formed in 1988, and is a volunteer association of cottagers and lake residents dedicated to:
Maintain and enhance the natural beauty and pristine state of Wolfe Lake and its shoreline,
Provide information on the environmental aspects of cottage life to assist members in the conservation and protection of the lake waters, shoreline, vegetation and wildlife,
Encourage measures to prevent and reduce pollution,
Ensure all future lake development is orderly and is not harmful to the lake, vegetation, shoreline and wildlife,
Encourage the safe and quiet enjoyment of the lake by all users,
Represent the lake community and develop a consensus in presenting the interests and welfare of its members to the townships of South Frontenac and Rideau Lakes and other authorities,
Encourage measures to conserve and improve fish habitat and population, and
Engage in activities to attain the above objectives.
ACTIVITIES – Directors and volunteers of the Association have been and continue to be engaged in a wide range of activities to promote our objectives. These include:
Set out and maintain marker buoys each spring to warn boaters of dangerous shoals,
Conduct and record regular water clarity and purity checks to serve as a data base and indication of potential sources of pollution for corrective action,
Belong to the Federation of Ontario Cottagers Associations (FOCA) to better promote the interests of cottagers to government and the public,
Maintain close liaison with officials of the Townships of Rideau Lakes and South Frontenac regarding environmental, taxation, municipal and by-laws regulations and other concerns impacting on the Association objectives,
Rehabilitation of Scanlan Creek to facilitate fish spawning,
Publish an annual newsletter and maintain a WEB site to keep all members informed on the Lake Association and lake activities and concerns,
Hold an Annual General Meeting each July to review, renew and evaluate plans, receive input on members concerns and to receive environmental and other information from qualified speakers and municipal representatives as well as from available pamphlets etc.,
Made a video tape survey of the entire Wolfe Lake shore line for reference purposes, and
Prepare and update a Wolfe Lake map with a numerical index listing all Wolfe Lake Property owners.
MEMBERSHIP - All registered lot owners are encouraged to join the Association as a voting member. Other interested individuals may join as associate non-voting members. Annual dues are $20.00 and may be mailed to the Treasurer, Marilyn Brown
